Saint John XXIII was born Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, a farmer's son from Sotto il Monte near Bergamo, and he worked as a diplomat for the Pope and then as Patriarch of Venice. He was elected Pope in 1958 AD at seventy-six, called and opened the Second Vatican Council, and died in 1963 AD.
